Gutai Book

This project explores the Gutai Art Association through book design, focusing on how layout, typography, and image sequencing can communicate the group’s radical spirit and performative approach to art. Drawing from Gutai’s emphasis on materiality, gesture, and action, the book translates these concepts into a visual system that prioritizes rhythm, contrast, and spatial tension.

Through deliberate typographic hierarchies and experimental page compositions, the book challenges conventional reading structures and invites an active viewing experience. Archival imagery and text are treated as dynamic elements rather than documentation, allowing the design to echo Gutai’s belief in direct engagement between body, material, and space.

Tools: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator

Inspired by Gutai’s belief in direct engagement with materials and space, the following design works explore how these ideas can be reinterpreted through graphic form.
